Suzanne’s Free Water Heater Install from ASC Heating and Air

The Whole Story

1Who Installed Suzanne’s Water Heater for Free?

Chris at ASC Heating and Air installed Suzanne’s water heater at no cost to her. She already owned it but could not afford to have it installed, and she went without hot water for longer than anyone should have to. Suzanne lives in Finksburg, just outside Westminster.

While he was there Chris also ran a full AC tune up on her system to make sure everything in her home was working the way it should! Suzanne put what it meant to her in her own words.

“It feels wonderful to have hot water! I am so thankful for all their help in a time of desperate need. It’s a wonderful feeling to know that they care and are there for people in dire need!”

2Who Is ASC Heating and Air?

ASC Heating and Air is the heating and air conditioning company we called for Suzanne’s install, and Chris is the one who came out to do it. Chris lives right here in Westminster and our team knows him personally, so he was the one we called.

The tune up Chris added for Suzanne says a lot about how they treat a home. If your own heating or air conditioning needs work, ASC Heating and Air is worth a call. They are based in Glenwood, Maryland.

3Who Brought Suzanne’s Case to The OWL Movement?

Suzanne’s case came to us from The Shepherd's Staff in Westminster. They have been helping local families like hers for years and they are also the very first nonprofit to partner with us on Owl For One. We could not ask for a better place to start! Their team works together on a little bit of everything. Brenda runs The Shepherd’s Staff, and Velma is usually the one who talks with neighbors who reach out and decides who gets sent our way.

One thing that stuck with us when we sat down with them in April is that they helped 8,000+ individuals right here in Carroll County in 2025! They meet the immediate needs of families here and help them get back on their feet. All of it is 100% funded by donations without government support.

4How Does Owl For One Work in Carroll County?

Owl For One meets one real need for one neighbor, and it works in three steps.

1. A local nonprofit like The Shepherd’s Staff brings us one real need from someone they already work with
2. We rally local businesses and our community to meet it
3. Everyone who steps up gets the recognition they deserve on our Facebook and Instagram

For Suzanne that need was getting the water heater she already owned installed, so we called Chris. Hers was the very first case The Shepherd’s Staff brought us. You can read every Owl For One story so far on our Stories page.

5What Happened After Suzanne Got Her Hot Water Back?

We shared her story on Facebook and Instagram on August 4 and her own words were the first line of the post. When we posted about our yard signs in September, a new water heater for a neighbor was the first thing we listed among everything the movement had done so far.

A huge thank you to Chris at ASC Heating and Air for doing more than we asked, and to The Shepherd’s Staff for bringing Suzanne to us. We are so glad we were able to help Suzanne with this one!

The OWL Movement is a free networking group in Carroll County that connects local businesses and nonprofits with neighbors who could use a hand. Own a local business or run a nonprofit and want to help with a case like Suzanne’s? Become a partner and we will make sure everyone knows who stepped up.
